Home to the once feared warriors of the North, the Vikings, the country of Sweden has long since changed ever since the times of pillaging and conquering. Now, it’s a breathtaking city, filled with luscious landscapes, stunning lowlands, and bustling metropolitan cities. It is now a city filled with amazing things to do! But when you do get there, where do you even start? Or better yet, which activity should you do first?
Sweden is too big a country to be able to do all of the great things in one day. So to help squeeze them all together based on your time and availability, here are three of the best things to do while in Sweden.
Drink Swedish Whiskey.
The old Vikings were known for their brash and boastful behavior on the battlefield, but it could also be applied when they were drinking with their friends. And to this day, Swedish people are known to be pretty strong drinkers, and because of this, Swedish Whiskey was finally born. So if you’re looking for a fine drink, then come to the island of Hven, where the only Swedish Distillery is made. It’s also a great place to take a day tour, with dramatic coastlines and even an observatory for all of those that wish to see the stars. So make sure to drop by the island, even if you aren’t looking for a drink.
Hike the King’s Trail.
Known as the Kungsleden trail, which translates to King’s Trail, it is a 425km route that will take you across mountains, valleys, forests, and even lakes. It is without a doubt, the biggest and best hiking trails in the world, and it can only be found here, in Sweden. The whole trip will take about 18 days, so make sure to have nerves of steel to get through all of it. But there are some shorter routes that will be relatively easier for you to traverse, and won’t take away from the experience at all.
So if you want to explore it, do so on foot, as it is definitely the best way to do so. Just make sure you’ll be able to handle it that’s all.
Bathe in a Vault Under Stockholm.
Have you ever wanted to bathe in a vault that was made thousands of years ago? Well, neither have I, until I found out that you can do it here. The Storkyrkobadet consists of just one really shallow pool and has smaller tubs around it. And though it is pretty small, it is actually considered to be one of the most relaxing places to be in, in Sweden. So make sure to come and visit whenever you can for the most calming bath in your life.
